Storage solutions are among the most important components of computing. While cloud storage appears to be the preferred option for most users these days, there is still a huge need for SSD for storing big amounts of data. To ensure that these SSDs never fall short of a user’s requirements, a business is planning to develop a 200TB SSD shortly.
To put this in context, this is double the amount of storage available on the greatest capacity SSD on the market right now. ExaDrive’s EDDCT100 3.5-inch SSD delivers a mind-boggling 100TB of storage for $40,000 (about Rs 30.4 lakh). Nimbus Data now intends to break its own record with a 200TB SSD, which is slated to be released later this year. Read also: Realme Book Prime launched with11th Gen
The claim was made by none other than the company’s CEO, Thomas Isakovich, in an email interaction with TechRadar Pro. A report that follows suggests that the company is already working on the successor of the 100TB SSD and expects to deliver higher performance and energy efficiency, in addition to the larger capacity, with its 200TB SSD.
At least, that’s what Isakovich claims. The CEO even states that the business expects to complete its development and release it to the market by 2022. Having said that, Isakovich does not go into detail about the unusual SSD just yet. So we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out the real capacity of the production unit and its related pricing.
TechRadar, on the other hand, makes some assumptions. The new Exadrive DC is expected to compete with conventional hard disk drives in data centers. Its 200TB capacity allows it to replace “entire banks of 3.5-inch hard disk drives,” according to the journal. Read more: Amazfit GTS 2 Mini 2022 in India: Check Price | Specification | Offers
As a result, the 200TB Exadrive DC will most likely be 3.5-inch with a SATA/SAS interface. We should expect the 200TB SSD to be significantly more energy-efficient and produce far less heat than a chain of hard drives. Based on our observations from the 100TB EDDCT100, the pricing, however, has the potential to rise.
This isn’t the first time a 200TB solid state disk has been mentioned. According to TechRadar, Isakovich has previously discussed the gadget, which is slated to be released in 2021. Despite the fact that the preparations were hampered by the Covid-19 epidemic and the subsequent interruption in the supply chain.
