With the rights to all of Netflix’s Marvel cape programmes poised to revert to Disney, the major issue has been whether they would eventually make the switch to Disney Plus to join the rest of the studio’s heroes. The answer is, unsurprisingly, “yes,” but with some crucial limitations.

Following up on Mobile Syrup’s initial claim, Engadget has confirmed that Netflix’s Marvel shows would start streaming on Disney Plus in Canada on March 16th, which corresponds to prior reports that the series would depart Netflix on March 1st. Between Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Hawkeye series, fans of the Defenders have had plenty of reasons to wonder if and when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the rest of the team would join Disney’s own streaming service, but it’s unclear whether their appearance on Disney Plus in Canada is a sign of future storey developments.

It’s also unclear whether Disney plans to treat the former-Netflix shows the same way in all of the countries where Disney Plus is now accessible, especially because the company still has a Marvel presence on Hulu, where shows like MODOK, Helstrom, and Runaways have previously resided. The fact that Disney Plus in Canada is also home to its Star content hub, which already offers lots of other mature material, could be a factor in this recent move, as well as another indicator that things may play out differently in other countries.
