Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines are now available on Arm processors, providing considerable performance gains over x86. Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, have promoted Arm CPUs. Arm-based CPUs are found in nearly every gadget made by a major manufacturer.

Microsoft, the second-largest cloud provider, is now offering Azure Virtual Machines for Ampere Altra Arm-based processors, which provide up to 50% better price-performance than equivalent x86 choices.
The company’s customers are already reaping the benefits.

“We’ll be able to give faster throughput and even better experiences with Azure Arm64 VMs than we could with x86 VMs in the past. We’ve accelerated our plans to deploy Arm64-based Azure solutions since the Azure Arm64 VM series has shown to be a stable platform for our applications.”
