We’ve evaluated all eight Apple phones that are currently on the market. Here’s how to choose the best iPhone right now, whether you need a great camera, flagship power, or a simple first phone for your kids.

You may have heard that “the iPhone” is the most popular smartphone in the United States(Opens in a new window). However, this is not entirely correct because Apple currently sells a wide range of iPhone models (eight at the time of this writing). The figure is substantially higher if you look at the shelves at the three big US carriers plus Cricket and Metro.

Each of Apple’s eight models has a distinct attraction, whether in terms of price, size, functionality, or battery life. We see arguments for the 13, 12, 11, SE, and 8 generations in models sold by different carriers. However, the X, XR, and XS are no longer attractive values when compared to other phones on the market, while the 7 and 6s phones are slowing down due to age.

Since the first-generation iPhone in 2007, we’ve tested every Apple phone. Here’s what we’ve discovered about selecting the best iPhone right now. Read more: Newest Apple product for you [iPhone 13]

The Most Powerful iPhone

Every year, iPhones become quicker and more powerful. A speedier processor is preferable if you play many games or browse many image-heavy websites.

For each new generation of Apple’s A-series CPUs, we anticipate a 15% to 20% increase in total performance, including web browsing performance. The A14 (in the iPhone 12) and A15 (in the iPhone 13) aren’t very different, but the A9 is (in the iPhone 6s).

Do You Need a 5G iPhone?

All of the iPhone 12 and 13 models support the new C-band networks. That’s a compelling reason to avoid anything older than the iPhone 12 on T-Mobile or Verizon. T-Mobile has already deployed its fast mid-band 5G network across much of the country, and Verizon debuted C-band in January, covering approximately 100 million Americans. The connection speed and performance of both systems differ significantly. If you’re on AT&T, I don’t think 5G will make a significant difference as rapidly. This isn’t a dig at AT&T; its 4G network is superb, yet ignoring 5G provides you with more iPhone options. Because of 4×4 MIMO technology, 4G/LTE Performance on the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 12 series is better than on the ordinary iPhone 11, iPhone SE, or older iPhones.

The Best iPhone Camera

How serious are you about using your smartphone to take photos? This can influence your iPhone selection.

Night mode, which was not accessible on the SE or previous phones, was introduced with the iPhone 11. This, in my opinion, is a crucial aspect. Everyone shoots photos in low-light situations, and night mode has a significant impact.

Wide-angle cameras are also available on the iPhone 11, 12, and 13 series, allowing you to fit more scenery into a shot. They’re excellent for photographing groups or swarms of people. The cameras on the Pro and Plus phones include a 2x to 3x zoom, which helps with clear close-ups. Also read: Samsung’s latest mobile phone to buy [ Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G ]

The Best iPhone Size

Some folks prefer large phones. Some people prefer compact phones. Both are available in the iPhone lineup.

If you’re upgrading from an older iPhone, all of the new phones will appear enormous. The iPhone SE is the same size as the iPhone 6, 7, and 8, and will be most familiar to individuals who own those versions. The iPhone 13 mini is the smallest current iPhone, but because of its thinner bezel and lack of a home button, it has a larger screen than the SE, 6, 7, and 8. If you miss the little iPhone 4, you’re out of luck; nothing that small is available anymore.

If you prefer smaller phones, the iPhone 13 mini is ideal. It blends a reasonably small and pocket-friendly size with all of the most recent features.

If you have a weak vision or unsteady hands, the larger touch targets and larger screens on the Max versions may appeal to you. They’re also helpful if you watch a lot of videos on your phone, although they might be cumbersome.

Larger iPhones typically have longer battery life than smaller iPhones (due to larger batteries). However, all of the new iPhone 13 models have better battery life than the same-sized iPhone 12 models.

iPhone Touch ID and Headphone Jacks

Touch ID and the headphone jack are both being phased out of the iPhone lineup.

Iphone Collection

The iPhone SE is the only contemporary iPhone that has a physical home button as well as a Touch ID scanner. They are also available on the iPhone 8 series. The latest iPhone with a headphone jack was the 6s, which is now slow and out of software support time, so we don’t recommend it. You should probably give in and acquire some wireless earbuds at this point.

Your iPhone Is a Ticking Clock

iPhones gradually lose software support. The most recent iPhone operating system, iOS 15, is only available on iPhone 6s and newer models. Expect a new generation of iPhones every year as new software needs more powerful CPUs than the very old phones have. Don’t get too worked up over the 6s and its ilk; that phone is now seven years old. We no longer advocate phones older than the iPhone 8 series; they will most likely be supported for at least two more years. Choose an iPhone 12 generation or higher if you want a phone with long-term resale value.
